What does A Misty Dimness Soap mean?
I get asked this a lot. Quite simply, A Misty Dimness Soap is an anagram of my tagline "Soap: It's my madness". Soapmaking is not just a hobby or something I do to make money. I am passionate about soap, soapmaking, and taking care of my customers. It's a passion that borders on madness - a happy, healthy madness.
Your soaps are amazing! How do I get the most out of using them?
Thank you! I know my soaps are higher priced than what you find at your local Wal-Mart, so I appreciate that you want to get the most use out of each bar. Handcrafted soaps are softer than your average grocery store soap, so they do need extra care. When you are done using your soap, make sure it is not sitting in water by using a shower rack or well-draining soap dish - soap savers work awesome too! When using soap for bathing, use a wash cloth or shower poofy to lather up. You will find you use a lot less soap.
What are your soaps made of?
Since October 2016, I have used a base of six oils: Olive Oil, Tallow, Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter and Castor Oil. Due to the rising costs of olive oil, in 2018 I made the switch to rice bran oil so that I can keep my customer prices stable (or possibly lower them!). The change from olive oil to rice bran oil should be complete by 2019.
What does Net Weight mean on your label?
I follow FDA guidelines for labeling my products. In the case of soap, I have to label with the lowest weight the soap will ever weigh. This can be difficult to determine, at the time I cut my soaps they weigh around 5 ounces, but after a cure time they might weigh 4.3 - 4.7 ounces. This weight change is due to liquid evaporating out of the soap. Soap will continue to weigh less as it ages, until it gets to the point where there is no more evaporation. (Don't worry! Your soap isn't going to disappear.) I err on the side of caution and label my regular soaps at 4.0 ounces. AMD Soaps will always weigh more than the label says.
Do you ship worldwide?
At this time, AMD Soaps only ships to the continental US. When I figure out how to ship internationally at affordable rates, I will absolutely open up my shipping options.
Do you do custom orders?
Yes! I love making custom orders. I have a current fragrance selection that I am offering on the Custom Order page. For a truly unique soap Contact me directly to start a custom order for you or a loved one.
Do you do wholesale orders?
Yes! If you are interested in stocking AMD Soap in your store or would like collaborate your ingredients (breweries, I'm looking at you) into soap, please contact me to discuss what products are available and how to customize them for your needs.
What if I place an order in your online store and it arrives with incorrect items?
Oh No! This has been known to happen on rare occasions. If this happens to you, please let me know and I will do my best to make it right as soon as possible.
Which soap is your favorite?
That's like asking a mother to pick a favorite child! I get excited about every soap I make, whether it's a restock of the Classics, or a completely new design. My current favorites are beer soaps and the Soleseife line.
Can I buy AMD Soaps in person?
If you live within 45 miles of Watertown, SD, you are welcome to schedule a shopping appointment with me. I also do craft shows throughout the year and will be posting those venues and dates on the Where To Find AMD page. You may also find a small selection of soaps and bubble scoops at ReVitalize Spa in Milbank, SD.
What new and exciting things are going to be in the store?
I am working on so many ideas right now, I'm a bit of a madcase about it all! All new products are tested before they are released in the store, so if you're interested in being part of my test group please contact me.
